The First Edition of FNRecon…

(if an announcement, press release, topic, forum post, or blog post catches your eye feel free to submit it to jester@tacticalrealism.com for possible inclusion in FNRecon)

Well, we are four days away from the release of Red Orchestra. With the release of the game manuals, FPS gaming fans of the WWII genre, especially the tactical realism niche, are preparing servers and feverishly looking for any more information. Some are deciding whether to purchase the game at all, get it from Steam, wait for the retail box, and, of course there are those, who have pre-purchased and pre-loaded since the pre-order release phase began.

Apparently, the devs have pulled the gag order on information about the beta and are allowing beta testers to answer questions from the rest of us unwashed heathens here.

Also, more beta impressions in the Official RO:Ost Forms here, from 10-78’s BusterKing.

Another topic of discussion is the Call of Duty 2 1.1 patch. Speculation abounds about the release date, possible patch testing and IW/Activision feeling the pressure from RO:Ost. Believe what you will, we just are pointing it out.

Harbor remade!
Rhine!
Look IW, RO comes out the 14th.
1.1 server up, Merged “Punkbuster is Running”
CoD 2 Test Server Up And Running With PB !!

HT: Fragnotes.com (Fragnotes also happens to post about a great server browsing tool HLSW, of course there is still the All-Seeing Eye, as well.)

In other notes:

Strag, the RO Admin from TacticalGamer, has posted about settings changes if you are having problems getting RO’s VOIP to work.

Tom Buscaglia has posted an article about RO:Ost, Tripwire, and Digital Distribution at Gamasutra.

And finally, the Nuts & Bolts 4v4 COD2 Rifles Only Tournament has been announced at the TNT Clan Site.

    1) My money is on a CoD2 patch being released Monday in an attempt to take the wind out of the RO launch.

    2) I would say that throwing a couple new maps at the wolves would quiet them down for awhile, but then it looks like one of the *new* maps is . . . er, HARBOR? I admit I liked the 2nd version of Harbor - a lot - but it is a crime to rehash that map for CoD2 when there is so much more content available in the single player game.
